Health Disparities Project - Maternal/Blood Pressure/Diabetes
Date
April 2023
Role
My role within the health disparities project has encompassed various initiatives, including maternal and pregnancy-related efforts. I collaborate with the Low Birth Weight Task Force and the Healthy Pregnancy Coalition, facilitating communication between partner meetings and student researchers while ensuring deliverables are met. I also mentored a student through an IRB application for the research project investigating the socioeconomic factors influencing the quality of maternal healthcare experiences among women in the Quad Cities, as well as their health outcomes during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Additionally, I attended and observed the first free blood pressure screening offered. Throughout these projects, I have participated in numerous meetings with our community partners to strengthen our collaboration.

The Health Disparities Project is an initiative spearheaded by Dr. Langley to address the health disparities present in the quad cities community, focusing on maternal health, diabetes, and blood pressure. The project has cultivated partnerships with the Low Birth Weight Taskforce and The Healthy Pregnancy Coalition to address these critical issues. We also recently partners with the Heart of Hope Community Resource Center.
