Rock Island Lead Service Line Project

Date

September 2022

Role

My role within the Lead Service Line Project began in Fall 2022, where I focused on organizing historical data. Along with other students, I contributed to an in-depth literature review. Following that, a select group, including myself, developed a webpage for the city government to inform the public about the Lead Service Line Notification Act. As I transitioned into my current position, I became the lead communicator between the community and our partner, Rock Island Public Works. I created weekly agendas for our meetings to ensure we stayed on track and maximized our efforts. This role also involved serving as the primary community contact for individuals needing assistance in identifying their water service lines. I was also in charge of canvassing efforts, which we sectioned off ward by ward for a more localized approach. The approach was based off previous conversations with city council members. Last, I was in charge of preparation for three conferences one with out community partner, one for the city coucil meeting, and last one on our home campus.

The Rock Island Lead Service Line Project is a community-based initiative in collaboration with Rock Island Public Works, aimed at replacing lead service lines in response to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's Service Line Replacement and Notification Act. The project seeks to improve water quality and safety for residents by addressing the issue of lead in the local water supply through proactive measures. This important initiative demonstrates a commitment to public health and environmental responsibility. Not only this, but equitable finance planning, and prioritizing areas with children under five were of most importance. I also as in charge of planning for a presentation with our community partner, and for a presentation on our home campus.
