This event gave me joy because of the content centering on people who care about taking care of our rivers, stream, and water. On April 4, 2024, I had the pleasure of hosting a viewing of Moved By Waters a film created by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Kelly and Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films. They turn their lens on their Quad Cities home base and discover a network of people and organizations working toward improved water quality in the Upper Mississippi Watershed. The Upper Mississippi Center was highlighted often, and was the first of a snowball of interviews many of whom we are partners with such as the city of Davenport, Iowa, and multiple members of Partners of Scott County Watershed.

The panel discussion I facilitated featured Steve Gustafson, representing Partners of Scott County Watersheds, Dr. Brittany McCall, Augustana professor of biology who specializes in studying fish in freshwater systems, and Amy Kay, City of Davenport clean water manager. Pictures below were taken from the films of student researchers that work with the centers.

Students above are sampling and identifying macroinvertebrates that will later help us to determine stream health based on sensitive to tolerant species numbers.

Students above are sampling for native fish species to further understand what and how many species are present, and use the data to determine stream health.
